June Training

June 1st is the official start of the 2013-14 season and I wrapped up the month with a solid block of training. This was my first volume block of the season to prep for the Squamish 50km and it went really well. No injuries – just the normal aches and soreness to be expected. This was my biggest volume block in some time and now I am looking forward to a slightly easier week then pushing in a few last big weeks before tapering down for the race.

Most of my runs have been in Squamish or North Van but I did manage to get up into the alpine and climb up to Wedgemont Lake. I hoped to scramble up Wedge but turned around when the snow got too deep.

I volunteered at the Squamish 5Peaks race and then raced the Survival of the Fittest 18k. I decided against racing Comfortably Numb in Whistler to focus on training. In July I am looking forward to some long runs and racing the 5-Peaks at Cypress Mtn.

June Running Stats:

  • 36hrs 42min
  • 295 kilometers
  • 13,708 meters ascent

In addition to running – Sarah and I have been out for a few bike rides as she rehabs her ankle. She’s been hitting the pool as well to keep things mixed up. We scoped out the Farmer’s Market in Squamish and caught the Canada Day fireworks from Memorial Ledge on the Chief. Paul also stopped in town on break from school and we managed two days out rock climbing!
